Karen Coltrane is the new president and CEO of EdVenture Children’s Museum. She has worked with non-profit organizations for the past 25 years, focused on leadership and governance, fundraising, marketing, and public relations. After starting her career as a bank officer with Signet Bank in Virginia, Karen moved to the nonprofit sector when she was hired by her alma mater, the College of William and Mary, to be the Director of Annual Giving, where she also served as a Major Gifts Officer during the university’s Campaign for the Fourth Century. Since then, she has served in external relations positions for healthcare, national trade associations and human service organizations. Most recently, she served as the president and CEO of the Children’s Museum of Richmond, the first children’s museum in the nation to open satellite locations. Her groundbreaking work there was recognized when she was named by the Richmond YWCA as the 2012 Outstanding Woman of the Year for Nonprofit Management. In addition to her professional work, she has also been an active volunteer, including service as a regional president and member of the national Board of Trustees of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America. She chaired the first Central Virginia Heart Gallery, and has served on numerous nonprofit boards throughout the Central and Southeast Virginia.
