Dr. Nate Henderson, Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Clinical Quality at Blue Cross BlueShield of South Carolina

Dr. Nate Henderson serves as Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Clinical Quality at Blue Cross BlueShield of South Carolina. In this role, he is responsible for oversight of the clinical content of programs and initiatives, and he plays a key role in driving health and outcome measurement requirements and program evolution. He helps guide numerous activities for BlueCross, including the overall strategic direction of the population health programs, innovative provider partnerships, and value-based care arrangements. He also oversees the Medical Director team and Medical Affairs department, with responsibilities involving clinical validation and maintenance of medical policy.

Prior to joining BlueCross BlueShield, he was a practicing hospitalist for over 10 years at Prisma Health Midlands in Columbia, SC and served as Associate Medical Director of the Hospital Medicine group as well as Medical Director of Clinical Utilization.

Dr. Henderson is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and is board-certified in Internal Medicine. He is also a Certified Physician Executive of the American Association for Physician Leadership.
