Dr. Edward “Mac” Leppard – Chief Medical Development Officer for the Midlands Division of MUSC Health.

Dr. Edward “Mac” Leppard is Chief Medical Development Officer for the Midlands Division of MUSC Health, a role he has held since 2021 following a 35-year career in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery in Columbia, South Carolina. A native of Columbia, Dr. Leppard earned his BS in Biology from the University of South Carolina and his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed general surgery training at Louisiana State University and thoracic and cardiovascular surgery training at Emory University Hospital.

From 1984 to 2019, Dr. Leppard practiced with Providence Thoracic and Cardiovascular Associates and held numerous leadership roles at Providence Hospital, including Chief of Staff. He served as Medical Director of the hospital’s Life Reach helicopter program, the first of its kind in South Carolina, and has served on multiple boards, including Providence Health, Sisters of Charity Health System, and the MUSC Board of Visitors.

Over the years, Dr. Leppard has received many honors, including the Society of St. Luke recognition and the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian honor. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of several professional medical societies.
Dr. Leppard and his wife, Connie, have two children and four grandchildren.
