1. What is it?
The Bocce Bash is a round-robin style bocce ball tournament presented by the Columbia Rotary Club as its primary fundraiser. The event is being put on in conjunction with the Special Olympics of South Carolina.
2. When and where is it?
Saturday, April 27th, 2024 at 9:30AM at Charles W. Johnson Stadium Benedict College. Gates open at 8am.
3. What if I’ve never played before?
No experience is needed. We’ll tell you the rules and everything you need to know the day of the event. Unlike golf, all you need is a functioning arm in order to roll a bocce ball.
4. How can I get involved?
Play. Sponsor. Volunteer. To do any of these, please see a Bocce Committee member, President Stephen, or go to the following link to register: https://www.classy.org/event/2024-columbia-bocce-bash/e514266 You can also register before club meetings at the Bocce Bash table out front.

5. Who does the money go to?
60% of the Bocce Bash proceeds are going to the Special Olympics. The remaining 40% will go to the Columbia Rotary Club to support our club’s service activities.
6. What does it cost to play and what do I get for that contribution?
$100 will cover the cost of a single player, and $500 will pay for a team of four players. Each team is guaranteed at least 3 games before elimination. Included in the cost is a tee shirt for every player, lunch, beer and non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy throughout the day.
7. Is this a tournament? What will the winning team win?
Yes. This is an official Bocce tournament, complete with judges and brackets. The winning team will receive a traveling trophy with individual medals for the team members.
8. Do I need to bring anything?
No. All bocce balls and courts will be furnished by the Special Olympics.
9. How long will it last?
Most players will be eliminated shortly after lunch; however, those teams skilled enough to advance will continue playing into the afternoon.
10. Are there going to be volunteer opportunities?
Yes! We will need volunteers for brief periods of time to perform the following tasks: court judges, check-in, distribute tee shirts, manage brackets, set-up and clean-up.
11. How old do you have to be to play and are spectators welcome?
Any age person can play in the tournament. Spectators of all ages are welcome to attend. Complimentary food and beverages are only for the players; however, the Fireflies will have limited concession items available for purchase.
12.What if it rains?
We will get to that if it happens.
13. Will I have fun?
Absolutely! With the people, the atmosphere, the beverages, the music, and such a good cause- you are guaranteed to have a great time!
