J. Rex Tolliver, USC Vice President for Student Affairs and Academic Support.

J. Rex Tolliver is the University of South Carolina’s vice president for student affairs and academic support for the state flagship university’s 38,000-plus student population. His division is responsible for more than 30 university offices and manages dozens of facilities that enrich students’ experience from their first steps on the historic Horseshoe until they walk across the graduation stage. Rex’s team connects students with resources that will help them achieve a lifetime of meaningful leadership, service, employment and continued learning. Under his leadership, USC continues to boast the nation’s top public college first-year experience, according to U.S. News & World Report. Prior to joining the Gamecock community in 2022, Rex spent five years as the vice chancellor of student affairs at the University of Illinois Chicago where he worked with now USC President Michael Amiridis. He also has served as the executive director of student unions at the University of Arizona, executive director of auxiliary services at LSU and fiscal officer at Idaho State University. Rex received his bachelor’s degree in finance and a master’s degree in public administration from LSU, and a law degree from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law.
