Tammi Richardson – Professor and Chair, USC Department of Biological Sciences.

Tammi Richardson is a Professor of Biology and Marine Science at USC. Born and raised in Canada, she pursued undergraduate and graduate studies there before moving to Northern Ireland for a postdoctoral fellowship at Queen’s University, Belfast. This involved fieldwork in the oldest and deepest lake in the world -Lake Baikal, Siberia. In 1998 she moved to the US, where she worked at UNC-Chapel Hill and Texas A&M University before finally landing at USC in 2005. Her research specialty is in the area of Phytoplankton Ecology – specifically how phytoplankton respond to changes in their environment, like light, nutrients, and temperature. She is currently the founding Director of USC’s Institute for Clean Water and Healthy Ecosystems, established in 2023.
