Matt Perron, Public Relations Manager at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden.

Matt Perron has had an interesting journey to finally land at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. After graduating Francis Marion University in 2000 with a degree in Biology and Chemistry along with minors in philosophy and theater he attended MUSC Dental School in Charleston. However, it only took a year for him to figure out being a dentist wasn’t in his future.

In 2002 he took a job as a medical recruiter and marketer in Atlanta Georgia finding doctors to work in smaller hospitals located all around the southeast. In 2005 the company was consolidating, and Matt voluntarily resigned his position so his sales partner who has three kids could keep his. Given a year of severance pay Matt decided to attend broadcasting school and upon completion, once again returned to South Carolina and settled in Chapin while going to work for WOLO (ABC Columbia News) He quickly became an Emmy nominated photojournalist, but you may have seen him either doing his movie reviews which ran for 10 years or doing the weather on the ABC newscasts.

After 15 years and two days he traded the media zoo for the actual zoo and is now the Public Relations manager at Riverbanks. He may only have been there for two and a half years, but a lot has happened, and a lot is coming up.
