Andy North, Head of School at Hammond.

Headshot 2023

Andy North is in his fourth year as Head of School at Hammond. A native of Florence, South Carolina, he is a graduate of Sewanee and earned a bachelor’s degree in English. He furthered his education at the University of Virginia where he received a master’s degree in education administration and supervision.

Andy credits his formative years as a student at Baylor School with instilling in him an appreciation for the enduring influence of teachers, coaches, and mentors on students. That impact guided his decision to pursue a career in educating young people. Prior to assuming the Headship at Hammond, Andy served as Hammond’s Head of Middle School. He previously served as Head of Upper School, Dean of Students, and Summer Programs Developer at Episcopal School of Acadiana.

In his first year as Head of School, Andy was recognized by the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) for his leadership with the First Year Head of School Award. Andy serves on the SCISA Board of Directors and the Palmetto Association of Independent Schools Board of Directors.

Andy’s leadership has brought a fresh perspective and revitalized dedication to Hammond’s mission and vision. The impact of his tenure has been felt across campus with expanded programs and facilities. The tenth leader in this role, Andy champions the importance of relationships and the power of curiosity, placing them at the core of his headship philosophy.

Andy and his wife, Becca, are the proud parents of two Skyhawks, Dansby ’28 and Miller ’32.
