For our meeting Monday Feb 25th lunch meeting we welcome Della Watkins the Director if the Columbia Art Museum

Della Watkins has served as the Executive Director of the Columbia Museum of Art for eighteen months. Prior to coming to Columbia, she was the Executive Director of the Taubman Museum of Art, Roanoke, Virginia for over four years. She completed fifteen years of leadership, non-profit management, and statewide programming at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, Virginia. Her early career included thirteen years in teaching arts education, all of which help her build viable partnerships, and deliver strong diverse museum programming to the public.

As a museum leader she is passionate about the function that the visual arts play in building a strong community and culture. Currently she uses her dynamism and leadership skills to oversee a major construction project, manage a strong non-profit business, garner support, cultivate relationships, and raise visibility for the Columbia Museum of Art, Midlands region and state.

Della Watkins earned her BA from James Madison University and MAE from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is a graduate of three leadership programs including Georgetown University Center for Public & Nonprofit Leadership, the Darden School of Business, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, and Getty Leadership Institute, Los Angeles, California.
