Mr. David Kerr has served as the Director of Public Safety for Lexington County since October 2011. Prior to assuming this position he served in the United States Army for 22 years. He entered Basic Military Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1989 and served as a Counterintelligence Agent for 11 years. After serving in Europe, Bosnia, Kuwait, Panama and Stateside, he attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and in 2000 he attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Military Police Corps.
He served in positions of increasing responsibility, which included Platoon Leader in the Republic of Korea; two company commands in Missouri; Operations/Police Advisor in Baghdad, Iraq; Law & Order Operations Officer in Maryland; and Senior Security Advisor, to the Saudi Arabian National Guard in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Mr. Kerr retired as the Chief of Police at Fort Jackson, South Carolina in 2011. Mr. Kerr is American Board Certified in Homeland Security – Level II and has extensive experience in the management of law enforcement, emergency response, security and antiterrorism programs worldwide. He currently serves as the Chairman of Leadership Lexington County and serves as an advisor on the State Palmetto 800 Communications Committee.
