Allen Roberson, Director South Carolina Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum.
“A War with No Front Lines: South Carolina and the Vietnam War, 1965 – 1973”
Allen Roberson attended Clemson University, but graduated from USC and attended graduate school there, earning a graduate certificate in museum administration. He is also a graduate of the SC Executive Institute. He began his career at the SC Department of Archives and History, worked at the USMC Parris Island Museum as Registrar, then Collections Curator. He was hired in 1998 by SC Budget and Control Board as Director to move, restructure, and revitalize the SC Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum.
Achievements as Director include:
- Relocating and redesigning a new museum that opened in Sept. 2002, and later expanding it.
- Earning national Accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums in 2004 and 2020.
- Positioning the museum as the State of SC’s military history museum and broadening the exhibits and interpretation.
- Record Museum attendance in 2022, the most visitors in the last 50 years.
We are proud to have Allen as a member of the Columbia Rotary Club since 2003.
