For our meeting Monday June 20th 2020 we welcome Dr. Linda Bell, State Epidemiologist and Director of the DHEC Bureau of Communicable Disease Prevention and Control.

Dr. Linda Bell received her undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Texas at Austin, and obtained her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern at Dallas where she also completed residency training in Internal Medicine. Dr. Bell served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and as a field officer with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). Dr. Bell has held a number of positions with DHEC including, medical epidemiologist, Director of the Division of Acute Disease Epidemiology and Director of Clinical Services. Dr. Bell is currently the State Epidemiologist and Director of the DHEC Bureau of Communicable Disease Prevention and Control providing oversight for the Divisions of Acute Disease Epidemiology, Immunizations, Tuberculosis Control, STD/HIV and Viral Hepatitis Prevention and Surveillance, Assessment and Evaluation. Dr. Bell is married to Dr. Myron Bell a practicing cardiologist in Columbia and they have two children.
